The Selous game reserve‚ renamed to Nyerere National Park in 2019 is the largest game reserve in Africa and one of the largest in the world. Coastal Aviation flies three times a day to every airstrip in the game reserve.

Selous is the second largest conservation area in Africa sized at 50‚000 square km. UNESCO declared it as a World Heritage site in 1982.

A walking Safari is a must as well as boat safaris along the Rufiji River. Selous has over 350 species of birds and reptiles and is host to about 2000 species of plants.

Travel Information

1. Selous Walking Safari is the most exciting activity to do in Selous as it is one of the very few parks in Tanzania where guests can do a walking Safari on foot‚ accompanied by armed rangers.

2. Camping inside the Selous Game Reserve is possible through permits; however‚ it can be difficult to arrange without assistance from one of the lodges.
