Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) Status

Coastal Air is among the elite airlines in the sub region that possesses an AMO certification (Approved Maintenance Organization). An AMO plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, reliability and compliance of an airline’s aircraft maintenance operations. This AMO status means Coastal is approved and certified by the regulatory authority to perform maintenance, repair and overhaul (M.R.O.) of aircraft and aircraft components.

In order to become an AMO, an organization must meet specific and rigorous requirements set by the aviation regulatory authority (TCAA).

These typically include factors such as technical capabilities, qualified personnel, appropriate facilities and equipment, documented procedures and adherence to safety regulations.

The approval process involves inspections, audits and assessments to ensure compliance with stipulated standards. This fact highlights Coastal Air’s commitment to the highest global safety standards. The Coastal AMO is approved both by the Tanzanian and Kenyans Civil Aviation Authorities (regulatory bodies) Coastal’s AMO is both an in-house maintenance division of the airline and also a service provider to other airlines.

A wide range of maintenance activities are performed including (but not limited to)

  • Routine inspections
  • Component repair
  • Engine overhaul
  • Avionics installations
  • Modifications.

Coastal currently has two maintenance Bases with functional hangars (in Moshi and Dar Es Salaam), and has concluded plans to construct a third larger hanger in Dar Es Salaam.
